Raising the Bar: Singapore Gymnastics' Efforts
As of March 2023, Safe Sport has trained more than 280 Safeguarding Officers over four years since it formalised the Safeguaring Officer Training curriculum
Safeguarding Officers are appointed by their organisations to advocate for safeguarding in their community and act as first responders for Safe Sport concerns.
The most recent additions to the group are over 30 representatives from Singapore Gymnastics’ member clubs. Every club nominated a staff member to attend the training, where they learnt how to identify and respond to alleged misconduct.
As members of the Safe Sport Programme, every National Sporting Association (NSA) must appoint at least one Safeguarding Officer. Singapore Gymnastics becomes the first NSA to extend their Safeguarding efforts to its affiliates, solidifying a commitment to Safe Sport across the Gymnastics community.
"We take child safety seriously and it is something that has been weaved into our club affiliation exercise. We must raise the bar and continually work towards becoming a safer organisation - we have an obligation to our community"

The training, consisting of E-Learning modules, a half-day online session and a full day in-person session, was well-received by participants.
The role-playing portion was the most useful in terms of applying the techniques learned…I will take steps to further improve our current policies with regards to complaints or concerns communicated by parents to us, taking into consideration the reporting protocol and the assistance that the Safe Sport Commission can provide. It is our responsibility to take the necessary steps to continue to Safeguard our stakeholders and developing athletes in sport.”
