Sports Visitor Program to the United States
As part of the ongoing commitment to Build Coaching Capacity and create a Safe Sporting Environment in Singapore, a group of 14 representatives from CoachSG, National Youth Sports Institute and Singapore Disability Sports Council embarked on a learning journey to the United States under the Sports Visitor Program from 20 August to 3 September 2023.
The team experienced eye-opening visits, inspiring engagements and impactful connections with various organisations such as United States Olympics and Paralympics, U.S. Center for SafeSport, USA Swimming, USA Volleyball, Tucker Center for Research on Girls and Women in Sports, the Tony Sanneh Foundation and many more.
The U.S. Center for SafeSport has been instrumental in providing resources and guidance when the Safe Sport Commission first started the journey of safeguarding sport back in 2019. The Safe Sport Commission was grateful to meet representatives from the U.S. Center for SafeSport where we had a fruitful discussion and understanding of the latest development in areas such as training and education, audit and compliance among others.
The Safe Sport Commission was also honoured to meet up with Congresswoman Diana DeGette, who is an active advocate for Safe Sport in the United States and instrumental in pushing for legislation leading to the setting up of the U.S. Center for SafeSport. Congresswoman DeGette shared useful insights on the learnings and challenges she faced, of which resources and manpower were of utmost importance with the increase in Safe Sport reports over the years.
The Sports Visitor Program has definitely sparked new ideas for projects and initiatives to further enhance the safeguarding efforts in Singapore. The Safe Sport Commission would also like to extend our appreciation and gratitude to the U.S. Embassy Singapore and FHI 360 in supporting the Sports Visitor Program.
